Century Extrusion Gearbox Lubrication Systems
Century Extrusion lubrication systems are designed to lubricate gearbox components and to remove heat from the gearbox. The style of the lubrication system is a function of the machine size and the speed of the gearbox output shafts. The 25 and 30 mm Extruders are supplied with splash lubrication systems and an internal coil is installed in the gearbox for cooling of the lubrication oil. The 40 mm Extruder utilizes the gearbox housing as the oil reservoir and it is supplied with a lubrication system under the base. The 50, 58, 70, 92 and 133 mm Extruders which operate under 600 RPM, are supplied with lubrication systems utilizing the gearbox housing as the oil reservoir, and lubrication components are all located on the extruder base. The 50, 58, 70, 92 and 133 Extruders operating above 600 RPM are supplied with an additional reservoir which aids in the removal of entrapped air in the oil.
Components used in lubrication systems are selected because of their quality, low noise levels, and availability. Shell and tube heat exchangers provide cooling for all 40 mm to 133 mm extruders. Filtration is normally accomplished with spin-on filter elements. The 40 and 50 mm extruders are supplied with a gear pump and the 58 through 133 mm extruders are provided with a three screw pump, which is recognized for its low noise level. Sound level readings of lubrication systems are typically below 75 dBA.
All lubrication systems employ totally enclosed fan cooled motors, and the normal method for controlling the cooling media through the heat exchanger is a temperature actuated water control valve. A pressure switch verifies that the lubrication system is operating. Domestic suppliers are chosen for all lubrication components.
Special design lubrication systems can be supplied to include components that are selected because of supplier contacts that the end user may have. These systems may include duplex filters, additional oil reservoir capacity, and special heat exchangers.
